ART matters 4 | Black and White and Color

December 2, 2018 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

DIAA | ART matters 4

Join the Deer Isle Artists Association on Sunday, December 2, 1:30–3:30 PM for DIAA’s first 2018–2019 winter session of ART matters 4, an opportunity for artists to share their work and talk about it with the public. The theme of this program is “BLACK and WHITE and COLOR” and will feature local artists Betsy Braunhut, Ron Deprez and Alan Vlach.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Betsy Braunhut has not been a photographer all her life, but she says she ‘certainly took pictures with my little camera for at least 70 years.’ “Now I am privileged to live in the age of digital cameras and computer programs that allow me to experiment endlessly. And what a good time I am having.”

Ron Deprez, an amateur photographer all his life, is now a professional photographer specializing in natural light portraiture. “I strive to create an image that reflects the aura that the person reflects in my eyes and the world,” he said. Currently his work focuses on working people on Deer Isle.

Alan Vlach is a fine art photographer with a deep commitment to the traditional darkroom while fully embracing new technologies. He works extensively with digital enlarged negatives and historical processes as well as digital printmaking. He captures images digitally, working in Photoshop to create enlarged negatives for use in historical processes including platinum/palladium, kallitype, salted paper, cyanotype, photopolymer gravure and, most recently, tri color gum.

After artists’ presentations and discussions moderated by Hub White, a reception follows with coffee from 44 North Coffee, tea and cake.
