Deer Isle Granite Museum

Established in 1996, the nonprofit museum preserves Deer Isle-Stonington’s unique history and culture built on the island’s quarrying industry, unique geography, and location as gateway to Maine’s largest archipelago. An accessible cultural hub of Stonington’s Main Street, the Museum educates visitors and residents alike about the significant economic and cultural impact of quarrying, showcasing the stories of the men and women who arrived in Stonington to quarry granite as well as those of the stone itself and the buildings, bridges, and more it has been used to construct around the world.
