Healthy Peninsula Hosts Hybrid Event to Address Maine’s Housing Shortage
On October 9th at 4:00 PM, Healthy Peninsula will host a free hybrid event at the Blue Hill Library’s Howard Room, also streaming via Zoom at the Brooksville and Ellsworth Libraries as well as at the Deer Isle and Stonington town halls. The event will focus on how Home Sharing is one way to address Maine’s severe shortage of affordable housing. A representative of MaineHousing will be at the event as well as the founder of third-party organization Nesterly, Maine’s Home Sharing Pilot Program will provide information about this program and answer questions community members may have.
Nesterly which is overseen by the Maine State Housing Authority, is an online matching platform that connects homeowners with available space with renters seeking affordable, long-term living arrangements while also benefiting older residents wanting to remain in their homes. The Nesterly platform facilitates this connection by managing listings, screening participants, conducting background checks, and handling rent collection, making it safe and convenient for all involved.
It is also possible to join the event from the comfort of home through registering online. For more information, or for help with registration for this event, please email Kayleigh Thomas at kayleigh.thomas@bhpl.net or Lori Johnson at ljohnson@healthypeninsula.org or call Healthy Peninsula at 374-3257.
