Sarah Baskin Artist Talk & Exhibition | DIAA

November 24 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Little Blue Dinghy by Sarah Baskin, oil, 8"x10"

The Deer Isle Artists Association is pleased to announce the commencement of the Winter Artist-in-Residence Program on November 4 with artist Sarah Baskin.  Sarah paints impressionistic watercolor and oil landscapes, seascapes and figures.  Sarah aspires to be a painter of light, focusing on how sunlight plays across the side of a building, sparkles on the water or creates shadows stretching across a landscape.  She also loves to paint outside en plein air in challenging conditions of changing light, moisture, wind, heat and cold—and the occasional passerby—that force her to paint quickly.  Many of her paintings are inspired by the natural beauty of the towns, harbors and islands of Penobscot Bay.

During her residency, Sarah plans to paint BIG seascapes, increasing the size of her oil paintings from her usual 9×12 to much bigger two-foot by three-foot paintings, as well as to photograph some of her work.

Sarah will be in residence November 4-24.  Please stop by the gallery to see Sarah at work and even enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, weekdays from 9-3 PM.  At other times, if the “Open” flag is flying, Sarah is there working and welcomes visitors to join her!

Sarah will hold a free watercolor painting workshop at the gallery on Saturday, November 16 from 1-3 PM.  In the workshop, you will have an opportunity to paint a small watercolor painting based on one of Sarah’s images, your imagination or an image of your own.  All materials will be provided, and participants are encouraged to wear old clothes or bring an apron or smock to protect clothing.  Space is limited, so please email sarahbaskinart@gmail.com if you would like to participate.

Sarah will hold an exhibition of her work in progress and artist talk at the gallery on Sunday, November 24, from 2-4 PM. Sarah’s work can be viewed at sarahbaskinart.com.

The Deer Isle Artists Association gallery is located at 15 Main Street in Deer Isle Village.  www.deerisleartists.com
